Tigers Open Second Half Of Season With Loss To Denison

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Just a day after returning from the team's annual training trip to Florida, the Wittenberg Tigers kicked off the second half of the 2013-14 season with a pair of losses to North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival Denison.

The Tiger men were defeated by the Big Red, ranked No. 1 in the nation, by a final score of 188-53. The Tiger women fell to the Big Red, ranked No. 2 nationally, by a 157-73 margin.

The dual meet loss served as the home finale for the Tigers, who will hit the road for three more competitions before the 2014 NCAC Championships Feb. 12-15 at Denison. Wittenberg will compete at Hiram at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, before closing the campaign with a meet at Centre on Saturday, Jan. 18, and a meet at Kenyon on Saturday, Feb. 1.

For the Tiger women, individual victories were supplied by sophomore Dani Lacy (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Collegiate School) in the 100-yard freestyle, senior Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) in the 200-yard breaststroke, and freshman Kate Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) in the 3-meter diving. Lacy added a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle.

On the men's side, junior James Dumstorf (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) touched the wall in second place in the 200-yard butterfly and senior Will London (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) was strong in the 100-yard freestyle, placing second.
