Tigers Fall To Oberlin In Final 2013 Dual Meet

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Wittenberg swimming & diving teams wrapped up a two-meet weekend with a trip to Oberlin College, but the hosts spoiled the day by handing both the Tiger men and women losses.

The men fell by a score of 132-111 and moved to 2-5 in dual meets, while the women absorbed just their second loss of the season by a 134-97 margin to move to 5-2.

For the women, first-place finishes came from sophomore Margaret White (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) in the 1000-yard freestyle on a time of 11:11.86 and in the 500-yard version on a time of 5:25.70, freshman Emily Allen (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) on the one-meter board with a score of 246.00 and on the three-meter board with a score of 219.85, and sophomore Madeline Kraft (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) in the 100-yard breaststroke on a time of 1:08.75.

Sophomore Dani Lacy (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Collegiate School) chipped in second-place finishes in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles and freshman Amy Schulz (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) matched in the 100-yard butterfly, as did sophomore Erin Swardenski (Fremont, Calif./Washington) in the 100-yard backstroke. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Emily Faas (Mason, Ohio/Mason), junior Logan Griffith (Pickerington, Ohio/North), White and freshman Emalie Taylor (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter)  also finished second.

The 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Stephen Stuthers (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic), junior James Dumstorf (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier), freshman Jacob Griffith (Pickerington, Ohio/North) and junior Jared Crum (Galveston, Ind./Lewis Cass) kicked the men's meet off with a victory. Also posting wins were senior Will London (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) in the 200-yard freestyle on a time of 1:48.98 and the 100-yard freestyle on a time of 49.17, Dumstorf in the 200-yard individual medley on a time of 2:02.32 and the 100-yard breaststroke on a time of 1:00.84, Griffith in the 100-yard butterfly on a time of 55.50, and sophomore Kevin Duhl (Westerville, Ohio/North) on the three-meter board with a score of 244.20.

Second-place finishes came from Griffith in the 200-yard individual medley,  junior Eric Roberts (Willits, Calif./Willits) on the one- and three-meter boards, Crum in the 100-yard freestyle, Stuthers in the 100-yard backstroke, and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Stuthers, senior Andrew Walsh (Woodville, Ohio/Oak Harbor), London and junior Cameron Mackintosh (Lusaka, Zambia/American International).

The Tigers, finished with their dual meet schedule until January, round off the first half at the Transylvania Invitational in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday, Dec. 7, and Sunday, Dec. 8.
