Tigers Split With Wooster In 2013-14 Dual Opener

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg men's and women's swimming and diving teams kicked off the 2013-14 dual meet season with a pair of solid performances against North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) arch-rival Wooster.

The Tiger women were big winners, beating the Scots by a whopping 187-104 margin. Wittenberg's men, however, came up just short on the scoreboard by a 159-137 margin.

Among the individual first-place finishers for the women, sophomore Margaret White (Westfield, Ind./Westfield), senior Sarah Wilson (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe), sophomore Dani Lacy (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Collegiate School) and senior Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) were all double-winners. White won the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events, Wilson was tops in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke, Lacy touched first in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle, and Gustafson reigned in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke. In addition, freshman Emily Allen (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) took the top spot in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, setting a new school record in the 1-meter in the process.

In addition, Wittenberg finished first in the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay. Wilson, Gustafson, freshman Amy Schulz (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) and Lacy were the winning quartet in the 200 medley relay, while freshman Emalie Taylor (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter), White, freshman Emily Faas (Mason, Ohio/Mason) and Lacy took top honors in the 200 free relay.

On the men's side, junior James Dumstorf (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) was the top point-scorer with a trio of first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard Individual Medley.

Sophomore Steven Stuthers (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) won the 1000-yard freestyle, junior Eric Roberts (Willits, Calif./Willits) took first in the 1-meter diving, freshman Jacob Griffith (Pickerington, Ohio/North) claimed top honors in the 100-yard freestyle, junior Ed Young (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School) earned the win in the 500-yard freestyle, and sophomore Kevin Duhl (Westerville, Ohio/North) rounded things out with a victory in the 3-meter diving.
