Tiger Teams Split At Centre

DANVILLE, Ky. — The Wittenberg swimming and diving teams had mixed results Saturday in a dual meet at Centre College, the men cruising to a 153-70 win and a 9-2 record thus far in dual meet action, while the women fell to 6-5 with a 90-124 loss.

Freshman Michael Garza (Dayton, Ohio/Hampton) led the men's team with three first-place finishes, two individually and one as a member of the 200 medley relay. He won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke events, and senior teammates Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ohio/Senior) and Bobby Ritzi (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) and junior Conor O'Rourke (Mendham, NJ/Canterbury School) swam with him in the 200 medley relay.

The men totaled nine first-place spots. Smith took the 100 backstroke and Ritzi won the 100 freestyle, while the team of Ritzi, sophomore Andrew Tran (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) junior Zachary Stewart (Vincennes, Ind./Lincoln) and senior Neil Anderson (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) took first in the 200 free relay. Anderson added a gold in the 100 fly, senior Matt Erenpreiss (Columbus, Ohio/Centennial) and junior Chris Culkin (Novi, Mich/Northville) earned the top spots in the 1-meter diving and 500 free events respectively.

The women earned three first-place finishes, led by sophomore Keaton Hannon (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh) with No. 1s in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly. Senior Adeline Brym (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) added top honors in the 1,000 freestyle and sophomore Megan Tassone (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) won the 100 breaststroke.

The Tigers next head to perennial national powerhouse Kenyon for a North Coast Athletic Conference dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 30, beginning at 2 p.m.
