After two separate stints as an assistant coach in Wittenberg University’s men’s soccer program, Brenton Dawson took the reins of the program as the interim head coach prior to the 2015 season. He assumed the leadership mantle of the program when his father, Steve Dawson, accepted an academic sabbatical, and he served as the program's head coach for the 2015 season.

A 2008 graduate of Capital University, where he earned a bachelor's in communication studies, Dawson has two years of NCAA Division III playing experience from his time with the Crusaders. Dawson also played for a year at American University in Rome, Italy.

In 2013, Dawson was named head coach of the semi-pro Zanesville Athletic FC, a member of the National Premier Soccer League. In the same year, he returned to Wittenberg as an assistant coach, following two years on the staff from 2008 to 2009. During that span, the Tigers achieved a top-five national ranking and appeared in the NCAA Division III national tournament.

In the interim, Dawson spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Heidelberg, where he earned a master's degree while helping the Student Princes to an undefeated season in the Ohio Athletic Conference and the first OAC title in school history. Dawson also served as an assistant for one season at NCAA Division II Tiffin University.

Dawson's coaching experience also includes years of summer camps and various age groups in Club Ohio FC and Blast FC. His licensing includes a USSF National "B" License and an NSCAA Premier Diploma. In addition, he holds a State Goalkeeping Diploma from the NSCAA.

A native of Springfield, Dawson played four years for North High School. He currently resides in Columbus.
