Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg men's soccer team snapped a three-match winless skid with a convincing 2-0 win over Earlham on Wednesday night at Edwards-Maurer Field. The match was originally scheduled to be played at Earlham on Tuesday afternoon, but it was moved to Springfield due to poor weather conditions in Richmond, Indiana. The win evens the Tigers record at 5-5 on the season.
How the Tigers Scored
The Tigers lit up the scoreboard first midway through the first half as sophomore forward Nick Togliatti dribbled past a few defenders and fired in a shot from the top of the box to give Wittenberg the early 1-0 lead.
Wittenberg struck again early in the second half as senior forward Alberto Zaragoza tallied in his ninth goal of the season in the 52nd minute. The senior from New Carlisle, Ohio, settled a loose ball in front of the net that was head his way from sophomore David Quayle, turned and slipped it by the Earlham keeper to give the Tigers the 2-0 advantage that they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the night.

The Tigers also topped the Quakers in nearly every statistical category, holding a 12-9 advantage in total shots and blanking Earlham in corner kick opportunities by a 4-0 margin. In addition, freshman Jason Bowen finished the night with two saves in goal for the Tigers.

The Tigers will now embark on a short two-game conference road stand, opening with a 7:00 p.m. match at Oberlin on Saturday (9/29) and concluding with a 3:30 p.m. match the following Saturday (10/6) at Wooster.
