GAMBIER, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers opened the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) portion of the 2015 schedule with a 5-0 road loss at second-ranked Kenyon.
The Lords extended their unbeaten start to 8-0-0, while Wittenberg fell to 3-6-2 overall. The game was the NCAC opener for both teams.
Kenyon wasted no time taking control of the game, scoring in the third minute and taking a commanding 3-0 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The Lords then put the game out of reach with a pair of goals in a five-minute span midway through the second half.
Kenyon held a 25-8 advantage in shots in the game. Freshmen Alberto Zaragoza (New Carlisle, Ohio/Tecumseh) and Robbie Russell (New Carlisle, Ohio/Tecumseh) led the Tiger offense with two shots apiece in the game.
At the other end of the pitch, freshman goakeeper Jack Snider (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) made eight saves for the Tigers.
Next up for Wittenberg is a home date against another NCAC rival, Allegheny, during Homecoming weekend. The Tigers and Gators will tangle at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Edwards-Maurer Field.
