SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Thanks to inclement weather in the area, the 2015 Wittenberg men's soccer home opener turned into a midnight marathon. When the Tigers finally exited Edwards-Maurer Field shortly after 11 p.m., they had a result befitting a game twice delayed by thunderstorms - a 1-1 tie with visiting Heidelberg.

The draw left Wittenberg with a 0-1-1 record, heading into the second game of its Labor Day home stand against Otterbein at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6. Heidelberg, which also tied Wittenberg a year ago in a rain-shortened affair, is now 1-0-1 in the 2015 season.

Wittenberg opened the scoring in the 23rd minute as Heidelberg's goalkeeper misplayed a pass from one his defenders and the ball trickled into the net. The own goal came just moments after a Heidelberg shot was headed out of danger by a Wittenberg defender.

In the second half, Heidelberg had a shot off a free kick in the 66th minute that rang off the crossbar, but in the 81st minute the Student Prices drew even on a penalty kick that just barely cleared the outstretched arm of freshman goalkeeper Jack Snider (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek).

Snider finished with three saves in the game. He faced a total of 11 Heidelberg shots, compared to six for Wittenberg. The Student Princes also earned seven corner kick opportunities.

Freshman Robbie Russell (New Carlisle, Ohio/Tecumseh) was the lone Tiger to attempt more than one shot in the game.
