Tigers Wrap Up Perfect Weekend With 4-0 Pasting Of Earlham

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers won for the fifth time in their first eight games, marking the team's best start since 2008, following a 4-0 domination of Earlham at the Wilmington Kiwanis Classic.

After a three-win week in which Wittenberg outscored Mount St. Joseph, Defiance and Earlham by a combined 9-0, the Tigers stand 5-2-1 on the season. Earlham fell to 0-6-1 with the loss.

The final shot count was 21-1 in favor of Wittenberg. The Tigers held a 14-1 advantage in the first half and followed that with a 7-0 shutout over the final 45 minutes.

Wittenberg opened the scoring with a goal by freshman Alexandre Veuthey (Geneva, Switzerland) in the 24th minute. Eight minutes later, senior Brian Boutin (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon) added a goal, and freshman Teddy Price (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) gave the Tigers a 3-0 halftime advantage with a goal at the 34:40 mark.

Boutin was the only player to find the back of the net in the second half, as he scored at the 88:30 mark.

Senior James Van Artsdalen (Riverwoods, Ill./Deerfield) went the first 61:35 in goal and was credited with Wittenberg's lone save in the game. Junior David Barth (Findlay, Ohio/Cypress Ranch (Texas)) took over from there and preserved the clean sheet.

UPDATE: After the dust cleared at the conclusion of the weekend, Wittenberg was named the champion of the Kiwanis Classic based on the second tiebreaker (goals allowed). Veuthey, Boutin, senior Joe Poff (Vandalia, Ohio/Butler) and sophomore Patrick Szymczak (Westerville, Ohio/South) were named to the all-tournament team.
