Tigers Open 2014 Season With 2-0 Loss To Thomas More

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers were outshot 20-2, but it took the visiting Thomas More Saints more than 45 minutes to finally find the back of the net in what turned out to be a 2-0 road victory.

In the season opener for both teams, Thomas More got the better of most of the action, but Wittenberg's defense held firm throughout. The Saints, however, broke through just 39 seconds into the second half and then added an insurance goal in the 78th minute. Lightning then was spotted in the distance, forcing a delay that eventually led to the premature conclusion of the game with 9:36 remaining.

Senior Mitch Rudibaugh (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) and freshman Daniel Roberts (Findlay, Ohio/Van Buren) each were credited with one shot in the game to account for Wittenberg's only offense in the game.

In goal, senior James Van Artsdalen (Riverview, Ill./Deerfield) faced 20 shots, including eight on goal. He turned aside six shots, all in the first half.
