Springfield, Ohio – The last set of 2013 men’s and women’s soccer postseason awards have been handed out, and the Wittenberg Tigers were well represented in the NCAA Division III All-Ohio awards from the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association.

For the women, who captured their second straight North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season title with a record of 5-1-2 in 2013, three student-athletes earned spots on the All-Ohio teams. Junior defender Mary Clare Yerke (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) picked up first-team recognition, junior midfielder Tobie Weston (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Christian) earned second-team honors, and senior forward Kayla Murphy (Dayton, Ohio/Stebbins) rounded things out with a third-team nod.

On the men’s side, senior forward Kevin Bond (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) capped his collegiate career in style with third-team All-Ohio honors.

Yerke’s award comes after she earned NCAC Defensive Player of the Year, first-team All-NCAC and second-team All-Great Lakes Region honors. A two-year starter in the center of the Tiger defense, Yerke spearheaded a unit that allowed just 18 goals in 21 games while recording nine shutouts to rank second in the league in 2013.

Weston also earned first-team All-NCAC honors, her third straight year on the league’s postseason honor roll. She ranked second on the team with 10 total points after contributing three goals and a team-high four assists to the Wittenberg attack.

Murphy picked up first-team All-NCAC honors for a second straight year after leading the Tigers in total points (17) and goals (8). She was limited to 15 games and 12 starting assignments due to injuries during the 2013 season.

Bond, a second-team All-NCAC selection, saved the best for last when it came to his collegiate career. After three years of solid contributions in a largely supporting role, Bond stepped into the spotlight as a senior and led the Tigers with nine goals and three assists for 21 total points. Two of his goals were game-winners.

Wittenberg’s women finished the 2013 campaign with an overall record of 9-7-5 and runner-up honors in the NCAC Tournament under first-year Head Coach Matt Fannon. The Tiger men finished 6-12-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the league, good for a tie for seventh place.
