WOOSTER, Ohio - For the fifth time in the 2012 season, the Wittenberg Tigers lost a one-goal decision. The latest team to overcome the Tigers by the narrowest possible margin was Wooster in a 2-1 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victory.
The loss dropped Wittenberg to 5-10-1 overall and 0-6-1 in the NCAC, heading into the final week of the season and games against Wabash and Kenyon at home in Edwards-Maurer Field. Wooster improved to 4-10-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the NCAC.
The Scots got on the board first with a goal in the 32nd minute, but Wittenberg had an answer in the 50th minute. Senior Marshall Rowland (Pewee Valley, Ky./South Oldham) found the back of the net, with a rare double-assist being awarded to the tandem of junior Kevin Bond (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) and sophomore Mitch Rudibaugh (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman).
The response was swift for the Scots, however. Wooster's game-winning goal came just 2:27 after Wittenberg had drawn level.
Wooster held a 15-12 advantage in shots, although the Tigers finished with six corner kick opportunities to three for the Scots. Wittenberg sophomore Jeff Mengerink (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) was credited with four saves in the game, while his Wooster counterpart earned the win by stopping six Tiger shots on frame.
