SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Wittenberg Tigers dropped a 4-2 decision to visiting Point Park in their 2012 non-conference finale.

The game served as a final tune-up for a grueling run of North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) games over the final three weeks of the campaign. Wittenberg, which dropped to 5-5-2 overall and stands 0-1-1 in the NCAC, starts the home stretch with a Homecoming Weekend contest against 22nd-ranked Hiram at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6.

Things started well enough for the Tigers against Point Park, which improved to 5-4 on the 2012 season. Senior Marshall Rowland (Pewee Valley, Ky./South Oldham) scored just 4:44 into the game, but Point Park answered less than one minute later.

After Point Park took the lead with a goal in the 14th minute, the Tigers were the ones with a response as senior Daniel Broidy (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) found the back of the net. However, Point Park again inched ahead just before halftime, and the visitors put the game out of reach with a goal in the 60th minute.

Rowland led the Tigers with seven shots, while Broidy added three. Wittenberg outshot Point Park 15-13 in the game and also held a commanding 7-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities. The difference was in goal, where Point Park came up with six saves, compared to two for the two Tiger netminders who split the game.
