SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Wittenberg men's soccer team scored a goal just 16 seconds into the second half to spark a three-goal second half as the Tigers claimed a 3-0 win over visiting Earlham.

Wittenberg improved to 5-3-2 overall with the win, heading into a weekend road trip to Oberlin for a key North Coast Athletic Conference game. Earlham fell to 2-7 on the season.

After a scoreless first half, the Tigers wasted no time getting a jump on the Quakers to start the final 45 minutes. Sophomore Adam Pitchel (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) scored the first goal of his collegiate career off an assist from senior Marshall Rowland (Pewee Valley, Ky./South Oldham) a mere 16 seconds into the second half to give the Tigers a lead they would not relinquish.

In the 77th minute, another Wittenberg player scored the first goal of his collegiate career as freshman Ross Cirincione (Medina, Ohio/Medina) finished a chance in front of the net off a nice centering pass from junior Zach White (Lima, Ohio/Temple Christian). The scoring was capped in the 82nd minute as sophomore Joe Poff (Vandalia, Ohio/Butler) scored for the second time in his Wittenberg career and first time in 2012 off a feed from freshman Jerron Bennington (Enon, Ohio/Greenon).

For thegame, Wittenberg outshot Earlham 13-7, although the Quakers had four corner kicks to none for the Tigers. Sophomore goalkeeper Jeff Mengerink (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) was credited with two saves before giving way to freshman David Barth (Findlay, Ohio/Cypress Ranch (Texas)) for the final 12:35.
