COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Wittenberg men's soccer team won its second straight game in the season-opening Capital/Fort Rapids Invitational thanks to an overtime goal for a 2-1 decision over Mount Union.

Two days after defeating host Capital 1-0, the Tigers made it two straight against Ohio Athletic Conference rivals. This one went extra time after an early goal by Wittenberg sophomore Mitch Rudibaugh (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) was matched by a score by Mount Union in the 50th minute. That set the stage for some theatrics from senior Daniel Broidy (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley), who made his final collegiate appearance in his hometown a special one by scoring a goal at the 100:37 mark off a feed from his former high teammate junior Kevin Bond (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley). Broidy was also credited witht the assist on the game's first goal.

Wittenberg was outshot by a wide margin in the game, but two of the Tigers' four attempts on the Mount Union net found the back of it. At the other end, sophomore goalkeeper Jeff Mengerink (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) turned away four of the five Mount Union shots that were on frame, out of 13 total attempts by the Purple Raiders.

Mount Union also led by a wide margin in fouls, as the Purple Raiders were charged with 19, compared to eight for Wittenberg. Two Mount Union players were also booked for yellow cards in the game.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 5, with the first home date of the 2012 season. Thomas More provides the opposition, with first kick scheduled for 7 p.m. at Edwards-Maurer Field. Live stats, video and audio will all be available.
