Springfield, Ohio - The last set of 2012 men’s and women’s soccer postseason awards have been handed out, with the Wittenberg Tigers well represented in the NCAA Division III All-Ohio awards from the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OCSA).

For the women, who captured the second North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season title in program history with a record of 7-0-1 in 2012, five student-athletes earned spots on the All-Ohio teams. Senior defender Lauren McMahon (Loveland, Ohio/Ursuline) and senior forward/midfielder Kailey Striebel (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) earned spots on the first team, senior goalkeeper Cassie Lythjohan (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) and junior forward Kayla Murphy (Dayton, Ohio/Stebbins) were named to the second team, and senior defender Kelly Brothers (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) was an honorable mention selection.

On the men’s side, senior midfielder/forward Daniel Broidy (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) capped his collegiate career in style with third-team All-Ohio honors and third-team Academic All-Ohio honors as well.

McMahon’s award comes after picking second-team All-Great Lakes Region, first-team All-NCAC and NCAC Defensive Player of the Year honors for her stellar play in 2012. She spearheaded one of the top defensive units in the nation as the Tigers allowed just 14 goals in 19 games, including a meager eight in 17 regular season contests.

Striebel was the leader at the other end of the field, ranking second on the team in goals (6) and total points (13). She finished her illustrious collegiate career ranked third in Wittenberg history for career goals (28) and total points (72) and fourth for assists (16). Striebel was a second-team All-NCAC selection in 2009 before three straight first-team awards in 2010, 2011 and 2012. She also earned first-team All-Ohio in 2010 and third-team All-Ohio in 2011, in addition to all-region awards in 2010 and 2012.

Murphy led the Tigers with seven goals in her first season in the Red & White to earn a first-team all-conference nod, while Lythjohan garnered second-team All-NCAC after finishing with a 0.56 goals against average after appearing in 14 games in 2012. Wittenberg recorded 11 shutouts during the 2012 season, and the Tigers ended the campaign ranked first in the NCAC in goals allowed, goals against average and shutouts, all by relatively wide margins.

Rounding things for the women, Brothers earned honorable mention All-NCAC honors in her final collegiate campaign after four years as a key contributor to the Tigers’ defense.

Broidy tallied team-highs of six goals and five assists in 2012 to earn honorable mention All-NCAC honors. He completed his Wittenberg degree earlier this month with a grade point average of 3.5 in business.
