CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — The Wittenberg Tigers snapped a five-game losing streak with a 1-0 victory over North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival Wabash.

The win was Wittenberg's first since a 2-1 triumph over Oberlin on Oct. 1 and left the Tigers with records of 6-10-1 overall and 2-6-0 in the NCAC. Wabash likely saw its NCAC Tournament hopes dashed as the Little Giants fell to 8-8-2 overall and 3-5-0 in the conference.

Early goals have put the Tigers on the defensive early in several games during the untimely skid. Against Wabash, freshman Joe Halula (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) turned the tables by getting the Tigers on the board in the game's sixth minute with an unassisted goal.

Senior goalkeeper Mike Lambeck (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) and the Tiger defense made that lead stand up, recording a pair of saves in each half. For the game, Wabash was credited with more scoring opportunities with 11 shots to Wittenberg's eight, all of which were taken in the opening 45 minutes. Among those shots that did not find the back of Wabash's net was a strike in the 37th minute by Halula that was cleared off the Little Giants' line by a defender.

Wittenberg will put the finishing touches on the 2011 season with a home game against Wooster at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. The team's seniors will be honored prior to the game, which caps a tripleheader on the Edwards-Maurer turf, also including field hockey and women's soccer.
