HIRAM, Ohio — A slow start doomed the Wittenberg men's soccer team to a 4-1 loss in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action at Hiram.

The loss dropped the Tigers back below the .500 mark at 5-6-1 overall, but more importantly to 1-2 in the NCAC. Hiram improved to 6-3-1 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

The Terriers scored two goals in the first 13 minutes to put a great deal of pressure on the visitors, who responded well with a goal from sophomore Brian Boutin () at the 17:30 mark. However, Hiram added a goal about 11 minutes before halftime to re-establish the two-goal cushion.

The Terriers, who outshot Wittenberg 20-11 in the game, put it out of reach with a goal at the 82:16 mark. Hiram also held a 7-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Boutin was one of four Tigers to finish with at least two shots in the game. The others were senior Spencer Hogue (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome), senior Declan McBride (Surrey, England/Tasis) and freshman Joe Halula (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central).

The Tigers return to action at home against DePauw at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12
