DELAWARE, Ohio — A fast start fizzled under a hail of scoring chances for the nationally ranked Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops as the Wittenberg Tigers dropped a 4-1 decision.

The Tigers scored the game's first goal as sophomore Shawn Doak (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) took a pass from freshman Joe Halula (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) and buried what turned out to be Wittenberg's only shot of the first half just five minutes in. Ohio Wesleyan returned the favor just four minutes later and then took the lead with goals in the 25th and 36th minutes.

After leading 3-1 at halftime, Ohio Wesleyan tacked on an insurance goal in the 65th minute to account for the final margin of victory. Along the way, the Battling Bishops piled up 27 shots to four for Wittenberg, in addition to taking 12 corner kicks to none for the Tigers.

The loss was Wittenberg's fifth in the last six games, but a four-game North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) gauntlet remains that could still turn the Tigers' season back around. It starts with a home game against Denison at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18. The Tiger Sports Network will have all of the action live on the Internet (stats, audio and video).

Wittenberg is now 5-8-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the NCAC, while Ohio Wesleyan improved to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
