SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — A second-half Senior Recognition Night rally fell short as the Wittenberg Tigers capped the 2011 season with a 4-2 loss to visiting Wooster.

The Tigers finished the campaign with records of 6-11-1 overall and 2-7-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). Wooster wrapped things up with marks of 6-9-1 overall and 2-7-0 in the conference.

The Scots jumped on top with a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, first on a breakaway and then off a corner kick. But the Tigers battled back as one of the seniors honored before the game, Spencer Hogue (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome), found the back of the net in the 24th minute off an assist from senior Declan McBridge (Surrey, England/Tasis).

Trailing 2-1 early in the second half, Hogue drew the Tigers even with a goal in the 54th minute. Junior Alejandro Garcia (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis) provided the assist as Hogue scored on a volley off a throw-in.

Wooster came right back and put the game away with two goals in a seven-minute span. Noah Wagemann collected a free kick and scored in the 65 minute, and then he iced the contest with a penalty kick at the 70:57 mark.

Wooster outshot Wittenberg 18-15 and had two more corner kick opportunities. The senior goalkeeping tandem of Mike Lambeck (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) and David Rea (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) combined for eight saves in the game.
