GAMBIER, Ohio — For the third time during a disappointing late-season five-game losing streak, the Wittenberg Tiger men's soccer team was beaten one goal, this time by the host Kenyon Lords, 1-0.

The loss dropped Wittenberg to 5-10-1 overall and 1-6-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). Kenyon remained in the hunt for a berth in the four-team NCAC Tournament at 6-7-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the conference.

Kenyon jumped on top with a goal inside the first 10 minutes of the game and the Lords' defense did the rest. Kenyon's goalkeeper did not get credit for a save in the game, but one of the Lords' defenders did. A flurry in front of the Kenyon goal resulted in two shots by Tiger sophomore Brian Boutin (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon) — the first one was blocked and the second one was cleared off the line by a Kenyon defender.

Boutin led Wittenberg with four shots, followed by senior Declan McBride (Surrey, England/Tasis) with two and sophomore Kevin Bond (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) and junior Brock Hicks (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) with one apiece.

Kenyon was credited with 14 shots to Wittenberg's nine and the Lords were granted seven corner kick opportunities to just one for the Tigers in the game. Interestingly, the Lords were whistled for 19 fouls in the game, compared to nine for the Tigers, who were given four second-half yellow cards and then a red card after time had expired.

Wittenberg will put the finishing touches on the 2011 season with a pair of NCAC contests next week, starting with a road trip to Wabash on Wednesday, Oct. 26. Senior Recognition festivities will take place at Edwards-Maurer Field on Saturday, Oct. 29.
