Tigers Fall 2-0 To Allegheny On The Road

MEADVILLE, Pa. — The Wittenberg men's soccer team fell to 5-9-3 overall and 2-4-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with a 2-0 loss at Allegheny on Saturday, despite putting seven of their nine shots on goal.

The Gators held the Tigers scoreless throughout the match while posting two goals of their own, both in the first half. Allegheny gained an advantage with five corner kicks in the first period and three in the second, versus one in each for Wittenberg.

Allegheny scored in the 15th minute to take the 1-0 lead, then added a second tally with 3:12 remaining in the first period to reach the final margin. The second half saw the Tiger defense buckle down and limit Allegheny to seven shots, down from 13 in the first period.

Freshman Kevin Bond (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) and senior Nate Ayres (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) paced the team offensively with three shots apiece, each landing two on goal.

Sophomore Marshall Rowland (Pewee Valley, Ky./South Oldham), junior Christian Stringer (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) and junior Brian Hertzog (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) all notched one shot on goal and overall.

The Tigers finish up the season with Senior Night, a 7 p.m. match at home versus Wabash on Wednesday, Oct. 27.
