Ohio Northern Quiets Tiger Men 2-0 At Home

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg men's soccer team fell to 2-3-1 overall on the season following a 2-0 loss to visiting Ohio Northern Tuesday night. The Tigers next prepare to host the Wittenberg Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18, and Sunday, Sept. 19.

The Invitational starts Saturday with a neutral site match between Earlham and Mount Union at 5 p.m., followed by Wittenberg versus St. John Fisher at 7:30 p.m. The event concludes on Sunday with St. John Fisher taking on Mount Union at 2 p.m., and Wittenberg versus Earlham at 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday evening, the Polar Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the match, holding the Tigers at bay after scoring both goals within the first 20 minutes of gameplay. Junior goalkeeper Michael Lambeck (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) stopped eight shots throughout the match and allowed the two Ohio Northern goals.

The Tigers launched nine shots, five on goal, to the Polar Bears' 23 and 10. Leading the way for Wittenberg was freshman defender Kevin Bond (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley), who posted two shots, both on goal. Junior midfielder/forward Declan McBride (Surrey, England/Tasis) also notched two shots, along with sophomore forward Marshall Rowland (Pewee Valley, Ky./South Oldham), who put one on goal.

Senior midfielder/forward Nate Ayres (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson), junior midfielder/forward Brian Hertzog (Champaign, Ill./Centennial), and senior midfielder/forward Merrick Austin (Westerville, Ohio/Central) all tallied one shot in the match.
