WOOSTER, Ohio — The youthful Wittenberg Tigers matched unbeaten Wooster stride-for-stride, achieving an important result in a 1-1 tie with the Fighting Scots.

The Tigers are now 4-5-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the early going of the 2010 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) title chase. Wooster is now 6-0-3 overall and 0-0-2 in the NCAC.

The final statistics reflect just how even this game was. In addition to the 1-1 final score, the two teams split 22 shots right down the middle. Wooster held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks, while Wittenberg finished with a 5-4 edge in saves.

The Scots struck first, scoring on their first bona fide scoring opportunity in the game's sixth minute. But the Tigers are a scrappy bunch, and they managed to even the score in the 69th minute on a goal by sophomore Brock Hicks (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) after a scrum in front of the Wooster goal.

Junior goalkeeper Michael Lambeck (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) turned in five saves. At the other end of the field, senior forward Tom Fisher (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) applied considerable pressure on the Scots' goal, finishing with four shots, three on frame.

The Tigers are now off for a week, giving them time to rest and prepare for another key NCAC match-up. Hiram comes calling for a game at Edwards-Maurer Field with a 7 p.m. scheduled kick-off.
