Transylvania Deals Tough Luck Loss To Tiger Men

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Wittenberg men's soccer team played 20 minutes of scoreless soccer before Transylvania went ahead on an own goal and tacked on an extra goal in the second period to defeat the Tigers 2-0 Friday afternoon at the Transylvania Invitational.

The Tigers fall to 0-2-0 on the season after being outshot 11-3. Sophomore Stefan Latham (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central), junior Robbie Farquhar (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) and freshman Marshall Rowland (Pewee Valley, Ky./South Oldham) each contributed a shot, with Farquhar and Rowland putting theirs on goal.

Starting goalkeeper Michael Lambeck (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) fell victim to the 21st minute own goal and gave up one more in the 64th minute. Sophomore David Rea (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) took over the net for the final 20 minutes, and made two saves in the span of one minute, just 10 minutes after entering the game.

The Tigers finished with a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks, but could not convert any of the opportunities.

Wittenberg takes the field again Saturday, Sept. 6, in their second game of the Transylvania Invitational versus Centre College at 3 p.m.
