Wittenberg Overwhelmed 8-0 By Calvin Knights

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio- The Wittenberg men's soccer team fell by an 8-0 margin to visiting Calvin in the fourth and final game of the 2009 Wittenberg Invitational, just one day removed from their first win of the season. The Tigers fell to 1-5-1 on the season, while Calvin improved to 5-1-0.

The Tigers picked up a 2-0 victory over Albion on Friday, Sept. 18, to activate the "win" column, but were overmatched by a skilled Calvin team. Calvin fired 25 shots in the contest, and kept Wittenberg almost entirely out of offensive territory, preventing the Tigers from getting off any shots.

Calvin scored eight goals in 13 shots on goal and held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks. Tiger goalkeeping sophomores Michael Lambeck (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) and David Rea (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) combined for five saves, two from Lambeck, who manned the net in the first period, and three from Rea, who took over at halftime.

The Tigers finish the 2009 Wittenberg Invitational with an event record of 1-1. After a week layoff, Wittenberg travels to Capital on Saturday, Sept. 26, for a match scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
