Wittenberg Remains Unbeaten With Win Over Hanover

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Wittenberg Tigers continued their early-season 2008 roll with a convincing 4-1 win over Hanover in the first round of the Ketner Classic at Trine University.

The Tigers improved to 3-0 with the victory, their second straight by three goals. Wittenberg returns to the pitch on Sunday against the host team at 2 p.m.

The story of this game was 2007 All-American Matt Borland (Kettering, Ohio/Alter), a senior forward. He recorded a hat trick with goals in the first minute, sixth minute and 86th minute of the game. It was the first three-goal game of Borland's illustrious Wittenberg career.

The Tigers actually led this game 3-0 before 10 minutes had elapsed. Senior forward Shane Price (Minford, Ohio/Minford) added a goal at the 9:33 mark. Junior midfielder Matt Fleissner (Fanwood, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) assisted on Borland's first goal and senior defender Michael Hosket (Yellow Springs, Ohio/Yellow Springs) was credited with the helper on Borland's second tally. Price's goal and Borland's second-half score were both recorded as unassisted.

The Tiger defense did allow a goal for a second straight, but not before the game's outcome was decided. Freshman goalkeeper Michael Lambeck (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) was credited with three saves as he won his third straight decision.
