Wittenberg Shuts Out Second Straight Opponent In Win Over Wilmington

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg men's soccer team lost 6-2 to Wilmington last year, but the Tigers came to the 2007 matchup ready to play defense in recording a 3-0 shutout.

The Tiger offense got the job done on the other end of the field, shooting 15 times including seven shots on goal. Three shots found their way in, sending Wittenberg to a perfect 3-0-0 record to start the season.

Senior goalkeeper Ben McAnnis-Entenman (Portland, Ore./Cleveland) saved just one shot on the night, as the trademark defense of the Red & White held strong once again, allowing just one shot on goal. Defensive play was outstanding all the way around, particularly from junior defender Justin Jenkins (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) who started the game and never left the field.

Near the other goal, the Wittenberg offense was just too much for Wilmington, particularly as the game wore on and the Tigers did not wear out. Two goals came during the last 10 minutes of the game, one from junior Shane Price (Minford, Ohio/Minford), who ended the day with seven shots, and the other from junior standout Matt Borland (Kettering, Ohio/Alter), scoring one goal on three shots.

The scoring started with junior Jimmy Thinnes (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) in the first period. All three Tiger goals were unassisted.
