Wittenberg Falls In Overtime To Emory At Centre College Adidas Invitational

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Wittenberg Tigers were stopped for the first time in the 2007 season, falling in overtime to fellow Emory, 2-1, in a match-up of unbeatens in the first round of the Centre College Adidas Invitational.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 4-1-1 on the young season, while Emory improved to 5-0. The two teams get right back into it on Saturday as Wittenberg squares off with the host Colonels and Emory goes against Heidelberg.

After falling behind 1-0, the Tigers evened things up on a goal by freshman Merrick Austin (Westerville, Ohio/Central) just before halftime. The two teams then played the rest of the game without making a dent on the scoreboard.

That changed in the first overtime period as Emory scored a "golden goal" at the 101:13 mark of the game.

Wittenberg was outshot 11-7, although the Tigers held an 8-4 edge in corner kick opportunities. Senior goalkeeper Ben McAnnis-Entenman (Portland, Ore./Cleveland) finished with six saves in the game.
