Tigers Fall To Wilmington, 6-2

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers got off to a bad start and the momentum went the wrong way all night in a 6-2 road loss to Wilmington.

The loss dropped Wittenberg to 1-2 on the young season while Wilmington is now 2-1. The Tigers get back into action over the weekend with a road trip to DePauw and Rose-Hulman on Saturday and Sunday.

Wilmington jumped on top in the 12th minute and added a second goal in the 29th before Wittenberg sophomore Shane Price (Minford, Ohio/Minford) scored off an assist from sophomore Justin Jenkins (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman). However, the Quakers effectively put the game out of reach with a pair of goals just over two minutes apart before the halftime buzzer.

A goal less than two minutes into the second half put Wilmington up 5-1. Wittenberg senior Nick Hauff (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) scored his first goal of the 2006 season, but the Quakers once again had the answer, rounding out the scoring with a goal in the 75th minute.

Wilmington held the edge in total shots, 20-7, while the Tigers had a 9-5 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Always a physical game between these two regional rivals, this one featured 35 total fouls and five yellow cards, including three for the Tigers.
