Wittenberg Tops Kenyon For Key NCAC Win

GAMBIER, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers have been pushed into a must-win situation, and they responded with a come-from-behind 2-1 win at Kenyon Tuesday.

For the Tigers to reach their second straight North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, they must start winning games, and after falling behind 1-0 at Kenyon the 2006 season was certainly in jeopardy. However, sophomore Shane Price (Minford, Ohio/Minford) and junior Joe Zeller (Springfield, Ohio/North) scored second half goals and senior Adam Horrocks (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) pitched a shutout in net to move the Tigers to 5-6-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the NCAC.

Kenyon struck first with a goal in the 42nd minute. But the Tigers came out strong after the intermission, scoring 10 minutes into the second half on a penalty kick by Price. In the 74th minute, the Tigers finally gained control of the game as Zeller scored off an assist from sophomore Michael Hosket (Yellow Springs, Ohio/Yellow Springs).

Now with a little momentum, the Tigers, who were credited with a whopping 24-11 advantage in total shots, hope to turn their season around with a win Saturday at home against nationally ranked, preseason NCAC favorite Ohio Wesleyan.
