Wittenberg Defeats Muskingum, 2-1

NEW CONCORD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers are now showing their teeth. For the fourth time in six games in 2005, Wittenberg squared off with an Ohio Athletic Conference opponent, and for the second time the Tigers came out one-goal victors.

This time, this win came on the road against Muskingum. Wittenberg improved to 3-2-1 overall with a 2-1 win over the Muskies, which dropped to 2-3-1.

Freshman Mike Conley was the offensive force, scoring a pair of first-half goals. He scored his first goal 10 minutes into the game on a cross from freshman Matt Borland. Sixteen minutes later, after Muskingum had evened the score, Conley headed home the game-winner after a cross by junior Brian Mutton.

The Tiger defense made it stand up from that point, allowing 12 shots on goal for the Muskies, but just four of them on goal. Junior goalkeeper Adam Horrocks made three saves to record his third win of the season.
