Wittenberg Rebounds To Beat DePauw

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - A young team coming of age quickly turned in a quality performance on Sunday, topping visiting DePauw by a 2-0 count at Edwards-Maurer Field.

The win evened Wittenberg's record at 2-2-1 on the young 2005 season. It came on the heels of a disappointing 3-1 loss to Rose-Hulman on Saturday on the same field.

Sunday was a new day, and the Tiger defense did the job, allowing DePauw 15 shots, 11 of which were saved by junior goalkeeper Adam Horrocks, who had his second shutout of the 2005 season.

Offensively, it was once again a day for the Tigers' young players to shine as freshman midfielder Matt Borland scored a first-half goal and then assisted on the second-half goal that put the game out of reach. Sophomore Joe Zeller headed Borland's cross home in the second-half, adding to a header goal by Borland in the opening frame off a long throw-in by freshman Mike Conley. Junior Nick Hauff was also credited with an assist on Zeller's goal.
