Wittenberg Falls To DePauw, 1-0

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - Perhaps it was too good to be true. After two straight dramatic one-goal victories, the Wittenberg men's soccer team came back to earth on Saturday, losing 1-0 at DePauw in a game in which the visiting Tigers played a strong second half but were never able to find the equalizing goal.

The most interesting statistic of this defensive struggle has to be goalie saves. DePauw's Kyle Clemens is credited with two saves and Wittenberg sophomore Adam Horrocks turned away three shots. All five saves came in the first half - neither team registered a save in the final 45 minutes.

Playing shorthanded due to injuries and playing their second game in as many days, the Wittenberg Tigers played well, according to Head Coach Steve Dawson, but were unable to gain the upperhand against the DePauw Tigers, perennially one of the best teams in the nation. Wittenberg was outshot in the game 15-5, but the game was evenly played for most of the second half, as the saves statistic would indicate.

Wittenberg returns home on Tuesday for a match-up with Urbana at 4:30 p.m. at Bill Edwards Field.
