Wittenberg Shuts Down Kenyon, 4-0

GAMBIER, Ohio - Perhaps Head Coach Steve Dawson has found the right formula. Two games into the North Coast Athletic Conference schedule, it would appear that some recent lineup and attitude adjustments may be paying dividends.

Four days after opening NCAC action with a 2-0 stunner at Allegheny, the Tigers recorded their second straight road shutout with a 4-0 victory at Kenyon on Wednesday. The win improved Wittenberg to 5-6 overall and 2-0 in the NCAC, good for first place heading into what is now a huge showdown at home against Ohio Wesleyan at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Wittenberg scored two goals in each half of this one to easily down Kenyon, which fell to 1-11 overall in 2004. Goals were scored by two freshmen (Joe Zeller and Evan Ingram) and two sophomores (Jason Sucher and Eduardo Missura), and the shutout was posted by freshman goalkeeper Ben McAnnis-Entenman, emphasizing both the youth of the present and the potential for this team the rest of the season and beyond. Assists were credited to junior Matt Berry, sophomore Sebastian Missura and senior Jason Ziegler, the team's lone player who will use up his collegiate eligibility this season.

The Tigers dominated from the outset, outshooting the Lords 17-3 for the game and 7-0 in the second half alone. Kenyon also committed 14 fouls to just three for Wittenberg.
