Wittenberg Shut Out By Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio - For the fourth time this year, the Wittenberg Tigers men's soccer team lost a game. And for the fourth time in the 2004 season, the Tigers were unable to score a goal.

On Sunday, in a game delayed by one day thanks to the torrential rains associated with Hurricane Ivan that passed through Ohio on Friday, Wittenberg dropped a 3-0 decision to host Wilmington in the final game of the 2004 Wilmington Kiwanis Classic. The loss dropped the Tigers to 3-4 overall on the season, while Wilmington improved to 5-1-1.

Wilmington controlled much of the action, peppering the Tiger goal throughout. The Quakers outshot Wittenberg 25-9 overall, including a 15-2 margin in the second half alone, and the host team attempted eight corner kicks to two for the Tigers. Tigers sophomore goalkeeper Adam Horrocks turned away 11 shots, but he yielded three first-half goals. His counterpart for Wilmington made six saves in the game.

The Tigers, who also suffered a shutout on Saturday against Transylvania, hope to turn things around when they next hit the field on Saturday, Sept. 25, against Cedarville. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m. at Wittenberg's Bill Edwards Field.
