Wittenberg Men's Soccer Players Selected to Participate in Senior All-Star Game

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Wittenberg University men's soccer standouts Steve Cassiere and Chad Atwood have been selected to participate in the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Coaches Association Senior All-Star Game, scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff on Sunday, April 14 at Ohio Wesleyan University. They are the first two Wittenberg players ever selected for the game.

The Tiger tandem will be playing for the south team in the event, which features seniors from soccer programs throughout the state. There is no distinction between NCAA and NAIA, nor Division I, II or III. The men's game follows the women's all-star contest at noon.

Cassiere, a midfielder and captain on the 2001 team that finished 10-7-1 overall and 4-5 in the rugged North Coast Athletic Conference, contributed two goals and four assists in 2001, and he earned first-team All-NCAC honors. Coming off a serious leg injury in 2000, Cassiere, a native of Cincinnati and a graduate of Turpin High School, finished with four goals and four assists for 12 points, second-best on the team. He was a second-team all-conference choice after playing 17 games that year, starting nine.

Atwood, a forward, played in just five games in 2001 due to injuries. He was productive when his health granted him the opportunity as he tallied three goals and one assist off the bench. In 2000, Atwood did not score a goal, but he did have five assists in 17 games, 12 of which he was a starter. He is from Nashport, Ohio and is a graduate of Tri-Valley High School.
