Brown scores career-high 6 goals to lead Men's Lacrosse to 26-5 win over Hiram on Senior Day

SPRINGFIELD — Junior Nathan Brown (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) netted a career-high six goals to lead the Wittenberg men's lacrosse team to a 26-5 win over Hiram in North Coast Athletic Conference play in Saturday's Senior Day game.

The Basics

  • Records: Wittenberg (6-5 overall, 2-5 NCAC), Hiram (5-9 overall, 0-6 NCAC)
  • Venue: Edwards-Maurer Field - Springfield, Ohio
  • The team honored seniors Andrew Barnes (North Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson), Colin Bilbrey (Fishers, Ind./Cathedral), Holton Boehmer (Brighton, Mich./Brighton), Henry Coyle (Grosse Pointe, Mich./South), Noah Gfell (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) and Kody Gould (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) in a Senior Day ceremony prior to the game.

Stat Leaders

  • Brown added two assists to his six goals for a career-best eight points.
  • Junior Connor Matthews (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) and sophomore Kyle Gould (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) also recorded hat tricks with three goals apiece.
  • Sophomore Ethan Pac (Greenwood, Ind./Cathedral) finished with six points on two goals and four assists.
  • Kody Gould and juniors Zach Busby (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) and Dimitri Gonzalez (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) each tallied three points on two goals and one assist.
  • Boehmer posted three points on one goal and two assists.
  • Junior Travis Demsher (Santa Clarita, Calif./West Ranch) tallied two points on one goal and one assist.
  • Junior Aidan Kruse (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland), sophomores Ty Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) and Colten Simkins (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) and freshman Ethen Jackson (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) scored one goal each.
  • Junior Max Benincasa (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) recorded two assists.
  • Sophomore Chase Singleton (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) recorded eight saves in 30 minutes and earned the win in goal for the Tigers to improve to 6-5 on the season. Freshman Griffin Howell (Whitestown, Ind./Zionsville Community) played the remaining 30 minutes and recorded four saves.

The Game

  • Wittenberg outscored Hiram 6-1 in the first quarter. The Tigers got three goals from Matthews in the first 15 minutes to go with two from Kyle Gould and one from Kruse.
  • The Tigers continued dominating in the second quarter, outscoring the Terriers 7-0. Brown scored four goals in the period to go with one each from Kyle Gould, Kody Gould and Simkins.
  • Trailing 13-1 coming out of the halftime break, Hiram scored the first goal of the third quarter but was outscored 9-1 to close out the period. Wittenberg got two goals each from Pac and Brown in that span to go with one each from Harris, Busby, Gonzalez, Demsher and Boehmer for a 22-3 lead.
  • Wittenberg closed out the victory by outscoing Hiram 4-2 over the final 15 minuntes, getting one goal each from Kody Gould, Busby, Jackson and Gonzalez.
  • Wittenberg out-shot Hiram by a 67-21 margin and finished with a 38-25 edge in ground balls while forcing 20 Terrier turnovers.

  • Wittenberg is now 10-0 all-time against Hiram.
  • Eleventh-year head coach Jay Owen is now 71-77 all-time at Wittenberg.
  • Brown has 40 points on 19 goals and 21 assists this season. He has 89 career points on 46 goals and 43 assists.
  • Kyle Gould has 34 points on 30 goals and four assists this season. He has 67 career points on 60 goals and seven assists.
  • Kody Gould has 89 career points on 72 goals and 17 assists.
  • Sophomore Dillon McKeigue (Olmsted Township, Ohio/St. Edward's) has 31 points on 23 goals and eight assists this season. He has 76 career points on 50 goals and 26 assists.
  • Singleton has 180 career saves.
