Kyle Gould scores 4 goals to lead Men's Lacrosse in 24-10 loss to Denison

SPRINGFIELD — Sophomore Kyle Gould (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) scored four goals to lead the Wittenberg men's lacrosse team in a 24-10 loss to Denison in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

The Basics

Stat Leaders

  • Gould's four goals gave him his fourth hat trick of the season.
  • Sophomore Ethan Pac (Greenwood, Ind./Cathedral) scored two goals for the Tigers.
  • Sophomore Dillon McKeigue (Olmsted Township, Ohio/St. Edwards) and junior Nathan Brown (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) recorded two points apiece, as they each posted one goal and one assist.
  • Juniors Connor Matthews (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) and Zach Busby (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) added one goal each.
  • In goal, sophomore Chase Singleton (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) and freshman Griffin Howell (Whitestown, Ind./Zionsville Community) recorded six saves each.
  • Junior Justin Katona (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) posted a team-high three caused turnovers for the Tigers.
  • Nate Kay and Tommy Quinson led Denison with matching stat lines of six goals and one assist for seven points.

The Game

  • Denison and Wittenberg traded goals early on, playing to a 2-2 tie with 8:34 left in the first quarter. Gould and McKeigue both found the back of the net for Wittenberg.
  • The Big Red scored the next four goals, but Pac scored for the Tigers with one minute left in the first period to cut the deficit to 6-3 going into the second.
  • Pac scored again to open the second quarter to bring the Tigers within two, but Denison answered with a 6-0 run for a 12-4 edge. Busby capped the second-quarter scoring with a goal with 1:26 remaining, sending the Tigers into halftime trailing 12-5.
  • Denison outscored Wittenberg 5-3 in the third quarter to take a 17-8 lead into the fourth. Gould scored twice in the period to go with one goal from Matthews.
  • Gould and Brown both scored in the fourth quarter as Denison closed out the 24-10 victory.
  • Denison out-shot Wittenberg by a 50-42 margin, finished with a 41-15 edge in ground balls and won 26 of 36 faceoffs.
