McKeigue leads Men's Lacrosse to 12-8 win at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — Sophomore Dillon McKeigue (Olmsted Township, Ohio/St. Edwards) recorded five points to lead the Wittenberg men's lacrosse team to a 12-8 win at DePauw in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Tuesday night.

The Basics

  • Records: Wittenberg (5-3 overall, 1-3 NCAC), DePauw (7-5 overall, 1-3 NCAC)
  • Venue: Reavis Stadium - Greencastle, Ind.

Stat Leaders

  • McKeigue's five points came via four goals and one assist. That marked his fourth hat trick of the season.
  • Sophomore Kyle Gould (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) added four points on three goals and one assist. That marked his third hat trick of the season.
  • Junior Nathan Brown (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) and sophomore Ethan Pac (Greenwood, Ind./Cathedral) added two goals each.
  • Senior Kody Gould (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) scored one goal, and senior Holton Boehmer (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) tallied one assist.
  • Sophomore Chase Singleton (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) played all 60 minutes in goal for Wittenberg and recorded six saves, improving to 5-3 on the season.
  • Freshman Charlie Frederick (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) recorded a team-high five ground balls.
  • Kody Gould and freshman Ethan Amidon (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) led Wittenberg in caused turnovers with three each.
  • Gavin Berry led the DePauw offense with three points on two goals and one assist.

The Game

  • DePauw scored the first goal of the game, but Wittenberg closed the first quarter with three straight goals over the final 10:05 for a 3-1 lead going into the second period. Brown scored twice followed by a goal from McKeigue.
  • DePauw opened the second period with a 4-0 scoring run for a 5-3 edge with 4:54 left, but Wittenberg again closed strong with three straight goals over the final 2:25  to take a 6-5 lead into halftime. Kyle Gould scored the first two goals followed by one from Pac.
  • DePauw regained an 8-6 lead with three straight goals to open the third quarter, but McKeigue scored with 29 seconds left to cut the Wittenberg deficit to one going into the fourth.
  • Wittenberg outscored DePauw 5-0 over the final 15 minutes to seal the victory. Pac opened the fourth-quarter scoring. His goal was followed by one each from Kody Gould and Kyle Gould, and McKeigue capped the scoring with back-to-back goals with 6:21 and 2:30 left, respectively.
  • Wittenberg out-shot DePauw by a 34-26 margin and forced 28 DePauw turnovers.
  • DePauw won 13 of the 23 faceoffs and finished with a 38-26 edge in ground balls.
