Men's Lacrosse falls 16-6 to Wooster

SPRINGFIELD — The Wittenberg men's lacrosse team fell 16-6 to Wooster in North Coast Athletic Conference play in its 2024 home opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

  • Records: Wittenberg (4-2 overall, 0-2 NCAC), Wooster (8-3 overall, 2-0 NCAC)
  • Venue: Edwards-Maurer Field - Springfield, Ohio

Stat Leaders

  • Senior Kody Gould (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and sophomore Ethan Pac (Greenwood, Ind./Cathedral) led the Wittenberg offense with two goals apiece.
  • Junior Nathan Brown (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) recorded four points on one goal and three assists.
  • Junior Connor Matthews (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) tallied two points on one goal and one assist.
  • Sophomore Dillon McKeigue (Olmsted Township, Ohio/St. Edward's) added one assist.
  • Junior Justin Katona (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) had a team-high three caused turnovers.
  • Sophomore Chase Singleton (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) played 45 minutes in goal for the Tigers and recorded 12 saves.
  • Will Fink led the Wooster offense with four goals.

The Game

  • The Fighting Scots netted the first three goals of the game, taking a 3-0 lead with 8:40 left in the first quarter.
  • The Tigers got on the board with a goal from Brown via an assist from Matthews with with 7:48 left in the opening quarter. Wooster capped the first-quarter scoring with a goal with 3:15 left in the period.
  • Wooster opened the second quarter with back-to-back man-up goals for a 6-1 lead.
  • Gould scored with 5:32 left in the second period, but the Scots responded with a goal for a 7-2 edge with 5:21 remaining.
  • After a Wooster goal with 2:19 left, the Tigers capped the scoring in the period with a goal from Pac on an assist from Brown with 1:17 remaining to go into halftime trailing 8-3.
  • Wooster outscored Wittenberg 7-0 in the third quarter to take a 15-3 edge into the fourth.
  • The Tigers got goals from Matthews and Pac to start the fourth quarter.
  • After a Wooster goal, Wittenberg capped the scoring with a goal from Gould with 1:28 remaining, putting the final score at 16-6.

  • Wittenberg is now 23-35 all-time against Wooster.
  • Eleventh-year head coach Jay Owen is now 69-74 all-time at Wittenberg.
