Men's Lacrosse opens NCAC play with 16-4 loss at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE — The Wittenberg men's lacrosse team opened North Coast Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon with a 16-4 loss at Ohio Wesleyan.

The Basics

  • Records: Wittenberg (4-1 overall, 0-1 NCAC), Ohio Wesleyan (4-3 overall, 1-0 NCAC)

Stat Leaders

  • Sophomore Dillon McKeigue (Olmsted Township, Ohio/St. Edwards) led the Tigers with two goals and one assist for three points.
  • Senior Holton Boehmer (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) and sophomore Ethan Pac (Greenwood, Ind./Cathedral) added one goal each for Wittenberg, and junior Zach Busby (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) recorded one assist.
  • In goal for the Tigers, sophomore Chase Singleton (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) made six saves in 30 minutes, and freshman Griffin Howell (Whitestown, Ind./Zionsville Community) made five saves in the other 30 minutes.
  • Wade Beckstrom led OWU with four goals and two assists for six points.

The Game

  • The Bishops outscored the Tigers 4-1 in the first quarter. The Tigers' lone goal in the period came from Boehmer with 10:17 left.
  • OWU increased its lead to 11-2 at halftime. The Bishops scored the first four goals of the second quarter before Pac ended that run with a goal. OWU then responded with three more goals over the final 5:21 of the period.
  • The Bishops added four more goals in the third quarter and took a 15-2 edge into the fourth.
  • OWU scored a goal 13 seconds into the fourth quarter, and Wittenberg capped the scoring with a pair of goals from McKeigue.
  • OWU out-shot Wittenberg by a 43-25 margin and won 18 of 23 faceoffs while finishing with a 42-31 edge in ground balls.

  • Wittenberg is now 3-48 all-time against Ohio Wesleyan.
  • Eleventh-year head coach Jay Owen is now 69-73 all-time at Wittenberg.
  • McKeigue has 23 points on 18 goals and five assists this season. He leads the team in points and goals this season and has 68 career points on 45 goals and 23 assists.
  • Junior Nathan Brown (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) has 20 points on eight goals and a team-high 12 assists this season. He has 69 career points on 35 goals and 34 assists.
  • In goal, Singleton has an 8-5 career record with 123 saves.
