Men's Lacrosse gets 8 goals from Kyle Gould in 15-10 win over Emmanuel at USA Lacrosse Complex

SPARKS, Md. — Sophomore Kyle Gould (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) recorded a hat trick in the first quarter as part of eight total goals to lead the Wittenberg men's lacrosse team to a 15-10 win over Emmanuel in a neutral-site game at the USA Lacrosse Complex on Friday. The Tigers are off to their first 3-0 start since 2014, when the team won its first four games of the season.

  • Kyle Gould had one assist to go with his eight goals for a total of nine points in the game. He also had a team-best seven ground balls. His eight goals and nine points are both tied for third-best in program history for a single game.
  • Sophomore Dillon McKeigue (Olmsted Township, Ohio/St. Edwards) added five goals and two assists for seven points.
  • Junior Nathan Brown (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) tallied one goal and five assists for six points. His five assists are tied for third all-time for a single game.
  • Senior Kody Gould (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) scored one goal.
  • Senior Holton Boehmer (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) and junior Connor Matthews (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) posted one assist each.
  • Sophomore Chase Singleton (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Tigers and recorded 11 saves.
  • Freshman Charlie Frederick (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) won 15 of 25 faceoffs for Wittenberg.
  • Cole Cloney led Emmanuel with four goals.

The Game

  • Wittenberg opened up a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, getting three goals from Kyle Gould and one each from McKeigue and Kody Gould.
  • A fourth goal from Kyle Gould put Wittenberg up 6-2 with 12:09 left in the second quarter.
  • After a pair of Emmanuel goals, McKeigue scored to give the Tigers a 7-4 edge.
  • Goals from Kyle Gould and McKeigue sandwiched an Emmanuel score to send the Tigers into halftime up 9-6.
  • Emmanuel opened the scoring in the second half to get within two, 9-7, but the Tigers answered with three straight goals, getting one each from Kyle Gould, McKeigue and Brown for a 12-7 lead.
  • Emmanuel scored with 57 seconds left in the period to go into the fourth trailing 12-8.
  • Kyle Gould added goals with 9:54 and 9:28 remaining in the game for a 14-8 Wittenberg lead.
  • After two straight Emmanuel goals, McKeigue capped the scoring with his fifth goal of the game with 1:49 left.
  • Wittenberg finished with a 33-27 edge in ground balls, while Emmanuel held a 40-33 advantage in shots. Emmanuel had 18 turnovers to Wittenberg's 14.
