Wittenberg Defeats Otterbein in First Home Win

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg returned to Edwards-Maurer Field, looking for their first home win of the season against the Cardinals of Otterbein. The TIgers have faced-off against the Cardinals eleven times in program history with the last Wittenberg win coming in 2017. The Red & White were able to add another program win with a final score of 9-7, starting a two-game win streak on the year,

Highlights- Wittenerg was led by freshman, Kyle Gould with four goals. The Tigers started the game with a 2-1 lead in the first quarter with goals coming from Nathan Brown (assisted by Connor Matthews) and Kyle Gould. Wittenberg would only put one on the board in the second quarter from Dillon McKeigue putting it in the back of the net unassisted. Otterbein was able to get ahead at the end of the second quarter with a 4-3 score. The Tigers came back to control the third quarter with three goals but the score remained tied at 6-6 to go into the final quarter. Scoring in the third quarter were Kyle Gould with two goals and Connor Matthews (assisted by Nathan Brown). Gould didn't stop at a hat-trick and started the fourth with his final goal of the game. With a 7-7 score and less than nine to play, Wittenberg took the game with two goals from Brown and McKeigue for a final score of 9-7 and a Tiger win. 

Splitting time in goal for the Tigers were Will Westermeyer and Chase Singleton, facing 15 shots and eight saves on the day. Defensively, Wittenberg tallied 24 ground balls, being led by Colten Simkins with five on the day.
