Tigers Drop Home Opener

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg hosted the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern in their home opener on Edwards-Mauer Field. The Tigers have only faced the Polar Bears one other time in program history back in 2019. This time around the Tigers were unable to take down the Polar Bears and fell with a score of 12-7.  

Highlights- Wittenberg's goals were scored by six different Tigers, being led by Holton Boehmer with two goals. Wittenberg's first goal of the game was scored by Zach Busby off of an assist from Max Benincasa to bring the Tigers within one of the Polar Bears. Holton Boehmer quickly made it a 2-2 game with a fast assist on the crease from Ben Holland. ONU was able to put two more on the board and Wittenberg went into the second down 4-2 before adding two more goals in the second quarter. Putting up the Tigers third goal of the game was Kody Gould with another assist from Holland to bring the Tigers back within one. Also scoring in the second was Aidan Kruse with an assist from Dillion McKeigue to take the team into the half with a score of 7-4 with the Tigers trailing by three. The Tigers came back in the fourth quarter with their final three goals coming from Kyle Gould and McKeigue both unassisted followed by Holton Boehmer assisted by McKeigue for Wittenberg's final score of 12-7.

Splitting time in goal were Chase Singleton and Will Westermeyer. The pair faced a total of 40 shots and had eight saves on the day.
