Wittenberg Finds Senior Day Success

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg returned to Edwards-Maurer Field for their seventh conference match-up of the season and their senior day game. The Tigers took on the Fighting Scots of Wooster, with a final score of 13-8 and a win for the Red & White to improve their conference record to 4-3. Prior to the game, Wittenberg recognized the class of 2022 which includes Julio Novarini, Noah Mackin, Mario Lorelli, Ben Rodell, Braeden Meier, Chris Stock, and Ashton Horiuchi.

Wittenberg had a back and forth fight with the even matched Wooster team. The Tigers were able to outscore the Fighting Scots in two of the quarter. Scoring in the first quarter were Novarini unassisted, Ben Holland from Noah Mackin on a man-up opportunity, and Connor Matthews unassisted. Outscoring the Fighting Scots in the second quarter were Kody Gould unassisted, Noah Mackin from Ben Holland, Kody Gould on a man-up opportunity from Noah Mackin, and Ben Rodell unassisted. The Tigers led 7-5 going into the half but still went back and forth with Wooster until the end. Starting things off in the third quarter was Noah Mackin unassisted for his second goal of the day. Wooster put two on the board in the third quarter but Novarini was able to even things out with his second goal of the day as well to head into the final quarter with a 9-7 lead. Outscoring Wooster in the final quarter were Connor Matthews unassisted, Julio Novarini with his hat trick, Ben Holland unassisted, and Kody Gould unassisted. Wittenberg ended the game with a 13-8 final score of Wooster.

The Tigers currently sit at number five in the NCAC with a conference record of 4-3.

Wittenberg Leaders- The Tigers were led by Kody Gould and Julio Novarini on offense with three goals each. Max Benincasa led in ground balls picking up five on the day with three caused turnovers. At the face-off was Luke Stanfield going 4-15 and Max Schillig going 4-10. In goal for the Tigers was Ben Shevins who faced 25 shots with 17 saves on the day.

NCAC Leaders- Wittenberg has four guys in the top ten for statistics in the NCAC. Ben Holland is at number five in the conference for goals with 28 and number ten for assists with 16. Holland continues to lead the NCAC in points at number six with 44 points. In face-off success, Luke Stanfield lands at number eight going 90-168. On the defensive end, Mario Lorelli and Max Benincasa are tied at number nine in the NCAC for caused turnovers with 21 on the season. (All statistics based prior to today's match-up.
