Tigers Fall in Season Opener Against Colonels

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg kicked off their 2022 campaign at home against the Colonels of Centre College. The Tigers had six different Tigers hit the back of the net with a second half rally.

Wittenberg had their first goal of the 2022 season scored by freshman Ben Holland, unassisted, at the 4:19 mark in the first quarter. Holland went on to lead the Tigers in goals with a total of five. Heading into the second quarter, the Tigers were down 7-1 but were able to start finding their offensive movement in the second quarter. Four Tigers got through Colonels defense in the second quarter. Kody Gould, assisted by Nicholas Langenderfer, got things started for Wittenberg's second goal of the game. Following Gould was Noah Mackin, Connor Matthews, and Ben Holland, assisted by Julio Novarini. After four more goals, the Tigers headed into the half down 12-5.

The third quarter provided Wittenberg with four more goals to bring their total to nine on the day. Kody Gould picked up his second of the game with an assist from Ben Holland. Scoring right after was Noah Mackin with his second goal as well. Ben Holland got back in on the action with his first collegiate hat trick off of an assist from Gould. Holland didn't stop there and put one more up in the third quarter to bring Wittenberg within seven. Starting off the fourth quarter was Holland with his final goal of the game and the Tigers 10th of the day. Julio Novarini and Nathan Brown added two more points in the fourth and Connor Matthews was able to hit the back of the net with an assist from Noah Mackin for a final score of 17-13.

Wittenberg Leaders- The Tigers had six different individuals score, being led by ben Holland with five goals, while Noah Mackin led in assists with two.

Up Next- Wittenberg will be on the road for their next match-up on February 19th. They will compete against Transylvania at 2PM.
