Three Tigers Lead Way to Win Over Little Giants

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg was back home on Edwards-Maurer Field for a match-up with the Little Giants of Wabash. Coming off of an exciting senior day win, Wittenberg was eager to put another win under their belt. With three Tigers leading the way, the Red & White were able to take down Wabash with a score of 18-4.

Lucas Klever was able to put the first point on the board with an assist from Andrew Ellis. Wabash was able to get one goal in the first quarter but the Tigers dominated and put five more goals in the back of the net. Klever got his second point of the game with an unassisted goal, and then came back at 5:37 with a hat trick off of an assist from Kody Gould. Klever would return but on the assisting side with Andrew Ellis scoring Wittenberg's fourth goal of the first quarter. Finishing out the first quarter was Connor Rice with two back-to-back unassisted goals on the crease, one on a man-up opportunity. Wittenberg headed into the second quarter with a 6-1 lead over the Little Giants.

The Tigers came into the second quarter with momentum and scored three unanswered goals. Noah Mackin made it through Wabash defense to start the quarter unassisted. Following him was Ellis with his second goal of the game and Klever with his fourth of the game off of an assist from Ellis. Wabash was able to get two goals to end the second quarter and Wittenberg went into the half up 9-3. The third quarter was controlled by Wittenberg who scored five more times with no response from Wabash. Ellis tabbed his third goal of the game to get things started. Following him was freshman, Gould with an unassisted goal and senior, Connor Rice with two back-to-back goals. Getting his first collegiate goal was junior defender Braeden Meier to give the Tigers a 14-3 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Ellis got his fourth goal of the game to start the fourth quarter and was the only Tiger to score once in every quarter. Wabash answered with one goal but Wittenberg was able to get through the defense three more times with goals from Mackin, unassisted, and Mitchell Steinker on an assist from Rice. Also grabbing another collegiate first was freshman Joe Lee with an unassisted goal to give Wittenberg their 18th point of the game. The Tigers defeated the Little Giants with a final score of 18-4.

Splitting time in goal for the Tigers was Max Cavellier, Brandon Shevins, and Jimmy Pedersen. Shevins led with seven saves on ten shots. Leading the offense was Andrew Ellis with four goals and two assists, Connor Rice with four goals and one assist, and Lucas Klever with four goals and one assist. Ben Rodell flustered the Little Giants with four caused turnovers and seven ground balls to help the Tigers keep possession. The Tigers led statistics with 40 ground balls, 24-27 on clears, and 1-3 on man-up opportunities.
