Senior Day Success for the Tigers

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg returned home for their senior day against DePauw. Prior to the match-up Wittenberg recognized Max Cavellier, Andrew Ellis, Cam Kennedy, Paul Kirk, Lucas Klever, Paxton Kreger, Nick Medley, Connor Rice, Jack Wolfe, and Neal Riddle in their senior day celebration. The Tigers went on to defeat DePauw with a score of 12-5 to improve their record to 3-5.

Wittenberg split the first quarter with DePauw, both putting up three goals. Wittenberg got on the board at 7:17 with a goal from Noah Mackin assisted by Lucas Klever. The Tigers came back moments later with two more goals from Kody Gould with another assist from Klever and an assist from Andrew Ellis. Wittenberg went into the second quarter with a tied 3-3 score.

Ellis got the first goal of the second quarter at 4:42 with an assist from Connor Rice to take the lead but DePauw was able to answer and tie the game 4-4. Wittenberg responded with three unanswered goals with one from Cam Kennedy on a man-up opportunity unassisted and two from Rice with one assist from Ellis. Wittenberg headed into the half with a 7-4 lead over DePauw.

The Tigers were able to continue holding DePauw's offense back and limited them to one goal in the third quarter. Ellis started the third quarter with his second goal of the game unassisted to take a 8-4 lead. Ending the quarter was Klever on a man-down situation and the Red & White headed into the fourth quarter with a score of 9-5. Wittenberg dominated the fourth quarter scoring three goals and holding DePauw to a scoreless quarter. Kody Gould picked up a hat trick with an assist from Klever to give the Tigers a five-goal lead. Following quickly after was Cam Kennedy with an unassisted goal for a 11-5 score. Wittenberg was able to end the game on a man-up opportunity with Lucas Klever assisting Andrew Ellis and giving Wittenberg a final score of 12-5.

In goal for Wittenberg was Max Cavellier, facing 17 shots and recording 12 saves on the night. The Tigers led stats in ground balls with 34 and man-up opportunities going 3-7. Leading the Red & White offense were Andrew Ellis with three goals and two assists, Kody Gould with three goals, and Lucas Klever with four assists. On defense, Braeden Meier took four caused turnovers and picked up eight ground balls while Nick Medley claimed four caused turnovers and grabbed three ground balls.  

Up Next: The men will be back in action on April 22nd at home. They will face off against Wabash at 7PM. Only pre-registered spectators will be allowed attendance at the match-up but fans will be able to watch the action at wittenbergtigers.com
