Wittenberg Claims Victory Over DePauw

Greencastle, IN- Wittenberg headed out to Greencastle, IN for a match-up with the DePauw Tigers. Wittenberg was able to dominate in the third quarter of the game to take a late lead and defeated DePauw with a final score of 10-9.

Noah Mackin was able to get the night started with an unassisted goal and put Wittenberg on the board first. The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle with the second goal coming from Kody Gould off of an assist from Andrew Ellis with under two to play. DePauw was able to get a last second goal in the first quarter but the Tigers headed into the second with a 2-1 lead. The second quarter would be uneventful for Wittenberg who was unable to get on the board, while DePauw was able to put one more point up to head into half time with a tied 2-2 score.

The Red & White came alive in the quarter with four unanswered goals. Ellis put up two points to start the second half with assists from Connor Rice and Lucas Klever. Mackin came back with his second goal of the game on a man-up opportunity, unassisted, and Rice got through DePauw defense to make the score 6-2 with 8:48 left to play in the third. DePauw finally answered back with two goals but Wittenberg held onto a 6-4 lead. The Tigers were able to extend this lead with two more goals from Noah Mackin with assists from Rice and Ellis. After DePauw goals, Wittenberg headed into the fourth quarter with a lead of 8-5.

The fourth quarter would be Wittenberg's most challenging quarter, with DePauw closing the lead. DePauw started the quarter with two back-to-back goals but Klever was able to answer with an assist from Rice and Cam Kennedy got on the board with an assist from Ellis to keep the lead. The Tigers were able to hang onto their lead and took down DePauw with a final score of 10-9.

Wittenberg was led by Noah Mackin on offense with four goals and one assist followed by Andrew Ellis with two goals and three assists. In goal for the Tigers was Max Cavellier with 11 saves after facing 20 shots.

Up Next: Wittenberg will return to action on April 17th for their senior day against DePauw at 1PM. Only pre-registered spectators will be allowed attendance at the match but all fans will be able to watch the action live at wittenbergtigers.com .
